Ivan and the Wolf (III) / 2024 / Ten Yetman (Winnipeg, Canada) / Acrylic and Ink on Canvas / 5 × 7 inches
“I love the Russian Fairy Tale ‘Prince Ivan and the Wolf’, and so far I have made 3 separate paintings inspired by this tale. There are many interesting parts to the story, but in this painting I am depicting the wolf transforming into a duplicate of the princess the King has held captive. The wolf pretends to be the princess and marries the King, goes to bed with him and then changes back into the wolf leaving the King in tears. Meanwhile, the real princess has time to escape and ride off with Prince Ivan.”
Ten Yetman is a visual artist born in Winnipeg, Canada. After attending the Fine Arts Program at the University of Manitoba (2004-2009) she spent many years living in Mexico City and afterwards in Nagoya, Japan teaching art classes and exhibiting her work.
Heavily influenced by her experiences abroad, her work explores cultural and historical expressions of death and immortality. After moving back to Canada in 2013 she has been continuing to paint and exhibit work both in Canada and the United States.
Ten's work is a hyper-juxtaposition, constantly referencing both "comforting" bright colours and patterns, candies and sweets, parties and beach scenes, along with "uncomfortable" images of horror.

Some might say that during lean times there is no room for anything but the necessities of life-- food, water, safety and shelter.
Yet others might respond that to only exist is not enough.
Passion, creativity, art, and imagination are also essential for us as humans to be able to continue on. Survival alone is insufficient ❤️️🗑🐑🌴
