On the Move
featuring Annalise Neil & Melody Jean Moulton
Annalise Neil lives and works in San Diego, CA. In 2006, she received a BFA in Printmaking from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, with a minor in Art History (summa cum laude). She participated in an Artist Residency in Motherhood from 2016-17, and in 2021 completed two independent art study courses with the NYC Crit Club. She has also studied painting, drawing, sculpture, wood working, photography, ceramics, jewelry, weaving, and basket making. She is a member of the Art Alliance at the Oceanside Museum of Art and the San Diego Watercolor Society. Annalise has exhibited her work in numerous juried shows throughout the United States over the last 15 years, obtaining several awards by notable jurors. She has created large-scale civic murals, helped to develop visual assets for product and packaging campaigns for large retail companies, and has mentored and taught students in and out of classrooms. Her work resides in private collections across the U.S. and in Europe.
“With nature imagery as a visual framework, my work considers ideas such as perception, deep listening, memory, and ecology. Metaphors that come from researching these scientific and philosophical tenets are woven into my pieces. The concepts and the images they lead to can be used to help interpret living as a human in our wildly complex, interconnected and social environments. Immersion in the natural world elevates and enriches our lives, and binds us to the majesty of our prismatic ecosystems. I am keenly interested in creating work that will lead to contemplation and reflection for the viewer, with the hope that empathy and mental elevation are experienced.”
Melody Jean Moulton is a self-taught artist from California. She was born and raised in Humboldt County, but has called San Diego home since 2002. All of her collage work is cut by hand, primitive cut and paste, and is largely intuition based. Letting go of expectations and going with her gut has proven to be her most potent path of creating.
The pandemic brought on some major life changes and in October of 2020 Moulton founded Trash Lamb Gallery, a small art gallery and unconventionally curated gift shop in the South Park neighborhood of the city. Trash Lamb features local, national, and international artists, representing a wide variety of genres and mediums.
Moulton’s work has been on view at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, La Matadora in Joshua Tree, Baton Rouge Gallery in Louisiana, Shockboxx Gallery in Hermosa Beach, and featured in various publications and online exhibitions.
